Survey Numbers and Payout Math

How much do cam models make? There is no fixed salary: a cam model earns from the tokens viewers spend, so pay ranges from about $100 a week for beginners to $6,000 a week for top earners in the largest public survey we found, with an average of $1,043 a week for 18 hours of camming (about $58.77 an hour). On CamSoda, each token a viewer spends is worth $0.05 to the model, so 1,000 tokens equal $50 before taxes and costs.

Those averages hide a lot. Below you will find what the survey actually measured, why salary sites and forum posts disagree so much, the token-to-dollar math worked out on a real payout schedule, and what is left after taxes. If you are still deciding whether this work is for you, start with our overview of cam modeling.

Why there is no webcam model salary

Most cam models are not employees. They broadcast as independent performers on a platform: on CamSoda, applicants sign an Independent Performer Agreement during model signup. Nobody pays an hourly wage for time online. What a model earns is a share of what viewers spend in the room, which means two models working the same hours on the same site can end the week hundreds of dollars apart.

Money comes in through a handful of channels, all priced in tokens:

Tips in a public room, often toward a tip goal or a tip menu item.

Private shows billed per minute, at a rate the model sets.

Interactive features such as connected toys that react to tips.

Premium content like photos and videos sold from the profile.

The site processes the payment, keeps its share and credits the model a set value per token. If you work through a studio or agency, that business takes its own cut on top. Our guide to webcam model jobs compares working independently with studio and agency arrangements.

What the survey numbers say about cam model earnings

The most detailed public figures come from a survey of 655 working webcam models run by Ready Set Cam between July and October 2022 (page updated December 23, 2024; we checked it in October 2026). Models reported their own earnings, hours, experience and main site. Here is what it found:

Average: $1,043 a week from an 18-hour week, or $58.77 per hour broadcast.

Range: from about $100 a week for beginners to $6,000 a week for top earners; hourly averages ran from $4.70 to $315.

Experience: models with under a year on cam averaged $804 a week ($43 an hour); models with 5 or more years averaged $2,875 a week ($103 an hour).

Full time: models camming 40 or more hours a week averaged $2,625 a week, which the survey annualizes to about $136,500 a year.

Hours matter almost as much as experience. Average weekly earnings by hours camming per week were $355 at 5 hours, $787 at 10, $1,088 at 15, $1,200 at 20, $1,133 at 25, $1,667 at 30, $2,123 at 35 and $2,625 at 40 or more. The dip at 25 hours is a reminder that these are averages of whoever answered, not a rate you unlock by adding hours.

Source: Ready Set Cam survey of 655 working models, July to October 2022, checked October 2026.

Why the numbers you find disagree

Search for a webcam model salary and you will see figures that do not line up: annual “average salaries” on job-board pages, weekly ranges from agencies, hourly numbers from forum threads, and one-off monthly stories. They measure different things.

Salary aggregator pages estimate pay from job postings and user reports. Camming is mostly independent work with no posted wage, so these pages model a salary that few performers actually receive. Two such pages in the current results differ by tens of thousands of dollars for nearly the same job title.

Surveys like the one above only reach models who are still working. People who stopped because they earned too little are not in the average. In the survey’s comment thread, readers ask whether the figures are before or after site commissions, and the page does not say.

Agency figures describe that agency’s own models, after its support and its cut, often in another currency.

Personal stories are real but single data points. A very good week can sit right next to a very slow one, and the headline only shows one of them.

A small group of top earners can also pull an average well above what a typical model takes home. Treat any single number as a rough ceiling for an established performer, not a starting wage.

Token-to-dollar math: what a model earns per token

Every platform turns tokens into dollars at its own rate, so the only number you can plan with is the one your site publishes. CamSoda’s model payout page states that one token is worth $0.05 to the model, and notes that this may vary by region. What a viewer paid for that token does not change the model’s credit.

Tokens earned

Value to the model at $0.05 per token

100

$5

400

$20 (CamSoda’s standard minimum payout)

1,000

$50

5,000

$250

10,000

$500 (the minimum for an international wire)

20,000

$1,000

A worked week (illustrative)

The numbers below are invented to show the arithmetic, not a forecast. Say a model broadcasts 12 hours over a week and receives:

Tips: 1,800 tokens across all sessions.

Private shows: 20 minutes at a rate the model set of 60 tokens per minute, so 1,200 tokens.

Total: 3,000 tokens × $0.05 = $150 for the week.

Effective hourly pay: $150 ÷ 12 hours = $12.50 an hour, before taxes and costs.

That is far below the survey’s $58.77 average, and that is the point: your effective hourly rate depends on how many tokens your room actually brings in. Track it from your first week and compare it with your own past weeks, not with a headline. The practical ways to raise it, from tip menus to show types and scheduling, are covered in how to make money camming.

When the money arrives: pay periods and payout minimums

Earnings only matter once they reach your bank. CamSoda publishes its schedule on the same payout page:

Pay period: Monday through Sunday, ending at 23:59 UTC.

Payment date: typically issued by the following Thursday.

Minimum payout: $20 for the standard listed methods, or $500 for an international wire transfer.

Rollover: if a week stays under your selected minimum, the earnings carry over until you reach it.

In the illustrative week above, $150 clears the $20 minimum, so the model would be paid after that Sunday’s cutoff, typically by Thursday. A week of 300 tokens ($15) would roll into the next one.

Cam model payout methods

CamSoda lists these methods for models:

Method

Who can use it

Check

U.S. and Canada

Direct deposit

U.S. only

Wire transfer

Domestic or international ($500 minimum for international)

Paxum

International models only

The page says to contact CamSoda’s Accounting team about other possible methods such as Mass Pay and Uphold, and that it does not currently pay models in cryptocurrency. Other sites set their own token values, schedules and minimums, so read each platform’s own model payout page before you compare them.

From gross earnings to take-home pay

The amount a site pays you is not what you keep. Three things come off it.

Taxes as an independent performer

In the U.S., independent performers are generally treated as self-employed, and CamSoda asks U.S. residents for tax details at signup. According to the IRS self-employment tax page (last reviewed October 30, 2026), the self-employment tax rate is 15.3%: 12.4% for Social Security and 2.9% for Medicare. It applies once your net earnings from self-employment are $400 or more, and it comes on top of income tax. You can deduct the employer-equivalent portion when you calculate your adjusted gross income. Many self-employed people set part of every payout aside for taxes; a tax professional can tell you how much fits your situation and country.

Costs of doing the work

A webcam, lighting, a stable internet connection, outfits and props are business costs that come out of your earnings. Keep receipts from day one and ask a tax professional which of them you can deduct where you live.

Studio or agency cuts

If a studio provides the room and equipment, or an agency handles coaching and promotion, it takes a share of what you earn. Ask for that share in writing and do the token math with it before you sign anything.

What moves your earnings up or down

The survey and an agency guide in the search results point to the same drivers:

Hours and consistency. Regular, predictable hours let viewers learn when to find you.

Experience. The survey’s 5-year models earned more than three times the weekly average of first-year models.

Regulars. Returning viewers who tip and book private shows make income steadier.

Time of day. Streaming when your audience is online brings more traffic to your room.

Promotion and a clear niche. Models who build an audience off the platform and stand out on it tend to earn more.

How much do couples make on cam sites?

The same survey split earnings by broadcaster type. Couples reported the lowest weekly average, $205 a week or $35 an hour, and also spent the least time camming of any group. Female models averaged $1,093 a week ($61 an hour), trans models $940 a week ($50 an hour) and male models $409 a week ($33 an hour). Per hour, couples were close to male models; the low weekly figure mostly reflects fewer hours online. Remember that a couple splits one payout between two people.

A first-month check for your own numbers

Instead of measuring yourself against someone else’s average, keep a simple log from your first broadcast:

Write down hours online and tokens earned for every session.

Convert tokens to dollars at your site’s published rate ($0.05 per token on CamSoda).

Divide by hours to get your effective hourly pay, and note which days and times did best.

Subtract a tax set-aside and your monthly costs to see your real take-home.

After four weeks, compare week one with week four: the trend tells you more than any single week.

If camming looks like a fit, our step-by-step guide on how to become a cam model covers verification and your first broadcast. When you are ready to apply, you can become a CamSoda model; applications are typically reviewed within 48 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How do cam models make money?

Cam models earn when viewers spend tokens in their room: tips, private shows billed per minute, interactive features and premium content such as photos and videos. The platform credits the model a set value for each token and pays out on a schedule. On CamSoda, one token is worth $0.05 to the model.

How much do cam models make in a day?

It varies widely. In the Ready Set Cam survey, a typical model earned around $300 a day for 2 to 4 hours of work, while experienced models working a full 8-hour day reported up to about $1,000. New models usually earn less while they build an audience.

What is the highest paying cam site?

There is no single answer. What you take home depends on the site’s value per token, its payout rules and how many paying viewers you attract there. Compare each site’s published per-token value and payout minimums, then test with your own numbers.

Is it legal to be a camgirl?

In many countries, performing on a cam site as a verified adult is legal, but laws differ by country and sometimes by state, so check the rules where you live. Platforms require performers to be adults and to verify their identity; CamSoda’s model signup asks for a government-issued ID and a current selfie.

How often do cam models get paid?

It depends on the site. CamSoda pays weekly: the pay period runs Monday through Sunday, ending at 23:59 UTC, and payments are typically issued by the following Thursday once you reach the $20 minimum.

There is no webcam model salary.
